Free Parakai (Food scraps) Drop off Service
We are collecting food scraps to reduce waste going to landfill, and will turn it into beautiful compost. We’ve made it super easy with 2 drop-off locations in Tākaka township. Just collect your food waste and drop it off at a time that works for you.
Are you a local?
We provide free 5L buckets for you to collect your parakai in at home.
We also sell our EM Brew which will help begin the compost journey.

3. Our partners at Helping Hands will pick up our fermenting parakai and deliver it to our Mohua Compost Collective Team. Helping Hands is a fantastic initiative which supports people to build confidence and the skills to get back into work.
4. We will sort your scraps, mix it with some other fantastic compost ingredients to get the perfect balance of carbon to nitrogen so that we can make well balanced compost.
5. We will monitor its moisture levels and temperature, and turn it regularly to keep it aerated and make it break down as efficiently as possible.
6. In a few months, we’ll have some nutritious food for our gardens.
